Fall is in the air, and it’s a wonderful time to visit Hatteras Island! Autumn brings more beauty and tranquility to Hatteras. ESA Easterns Surfing Championship September 16-22, 2012
The 45th Anniversary of the Easterns Championships will be held September 16-22, 2012 at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, NC! Over 150 competitions along the east coast each year will bring the best of the best to compete in the ESA Easterns Surfing Championships! Spectators are welcomed to come out and watch the great talent! Be sure to join us each evening after the contest on the beach at Jennette’s Pier for live music by Hawaiian recording artist Ekolu Kalama and reggae band Selah Dubb. They will also be offering a Jimmy Lewis SUP Surfing Expression Session with world champion stand up paddler Ekolu Kalama and wife Honora. Ducks Unlimited Banquet Saturday, September 22, 2012
The Cape Hatteras Ducks Unlimited Banquet will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at the Hatteras Village Civic Center. The banquet will be held from 6-11:30pm. The doors will open at 5:30pm and cocktails will be served at 6:00pm and dinner will begin at 7:00pm. Come join us for a good time and also for a great cause! Your ticket includes event attendance and a one-year membership to Ducks Unlimited. Come be a part of something special and make tomorrow a better place for ducks, geese, other wildlife and people. Fee Free Day at the Wright Brother’s National Memorial September 29, 2012
Celebrating National Public Lands Day, there will be a “fee free” day at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, September 29, 2012. The National Park Service will also have “fee free” day also on November 10-12, 2012, Veterans Day weekend. For more information on Fee Free days, visit the NPS on the web.
9th Annual 5K Fun Run Saturday, October 6, 2012
The 9th Annual 5K Fun Run is sponsored by the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation and will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 10:00am at Sun Realty in Avon. Registration will begin at 9:00am. You can walk, run, or just come and join us in all the festivities- music, barbecue, and activities for kids, a bake sale, prizes, dove release by Hatteras Doves and much more! Again this year, the organizers ask that all runners and walkers to wear something pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A prize will be given to the most “PINKED OUT” person. Entry fee is $25 for adults and $15 for children 18 and under, children in strollers are free. Entry forms and more information are available online at the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation website. 4th Annual Bike the Light Saturday, October 13, 2012
The 4th Annual Bike the Light will be hosted by The Kiwanis Club of Hatteras Island and will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 10:00am. Registration will begin at 9:00am. This event is an 8K scenic bike ride beginning at the Cape Hatteras Secondary School all the way to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, and back! After the ride, there will be refreshments for all and a prize ceremony for best costume for child, teen, adult and group! Registration is $5. This event is a fun filled, zany bike ride that helps the Kiwanis Club raise money for the Hatteras Island Terrific Kids Program and Senior Scholarships.We hope to see you there!
