If you’re looking for a pre-spring getaway, Hatteras Island is the place to be. Filled with small town charm and peaceful beach vibes, here is our list of the top 5 things to do while visiting Hatteras Island in March 2025!
1. Beach Walks
A beach walk in March is always an adventure. The weather’s moods of March can go either direction, but somewhere in there you can usually find a windy spell, which is great for shelling. After a big blow, walk the beach for a treasure hunt–who knows what you’ll find! Even if the shelling is sparse, there is always something new to see while enjoying the sunshine on your skin. From dolphins playing in the surf to uncovered shipwreck remains, this is one exploratory mission you don’t want to pass on.
2. March 12th & 26th | Cape Hatteras Anglers Club Bingo
Located at the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club (47231 Light Plant Road; Buxton, NC 27920), doors open at 6pm. Bingo starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm. Arrive early as this event is limited to 150 players. All proceeds support beach access!
3. Winter Restaurant Tour
Like many neighboring beaches, Hatteras Island is largely a vacation destination with many restaurants only open seasonally due to lack of traffic. While you may be scratching your head wondering why a restaurant tour would be on the list of things to do this time of year, it’s because it’s actually the perfect opportunity to explore restaurants that may not have otherwise been on your radar. Cozy up to the bar at Isola Pizzeria and Bar for a craft pizza and one (or more) of their specialty cocktails, try Tavern on 12’s savory flavors with optional outdoor dining if you do so choose, snag brunch and live tunes at Café Pamlico, slurp down the clams linguini at the Cockeyed Clam, and take in the unexpected burst of flavor from quite literally anything you choose from Waves Market & Deli! In this case, less options definitely doesn’t mean less variety, quality, or flavor!
4. March 16th | St. Patrick’s Day Brunch
Hosted by and benefiting the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation, the annual St. Patrick’s Day Brunch will return to Hatteras Village on Sunday, March 16th, 2025. Tickets are $45/person and will include a range of delicious brunch fare, live music by Rory, mimosas, beer, wine pull, and a bloody bar (bring your own vodka). Tickets can be purchased at Beach Pharmacy in Hatteras or Avon. Unsold tickets will be sold at the door if and for as long as they’re available.
5. March 21st-22nd | 2025 Waterfowl Festival
Rescheduled due to inclement weather, the Waterfowl Festival is back on for March 21st-March 22nd. Scheduled activities include the Fin, Feather and Bourbon Event, a guided bird walk, a duck competition, decoy and wood art exhibits, a guided brant painting workshop, and much more!
